A collection of my own musings, not to be taken too seriously. -HJC
In the early spring the blizzard moths emerge from their cocoons, find partners and suitable groves of pine trees for the female to lay one egg per tree. The parents then watch over this grove, as they munch on the trees, then die as the next generation takes wing.
Adult Blizzard Moth (2-hex with wings folded) ST 24, DX 12, IQ 5, MA 6/24 Attacks and Damage: Bite (2d), wing sweep (like a tail sweep, but to the sides) Special Ability/Weakness: Dust storm, takes double damage from fire. Armor: Scales stop one hit.
These moths can raise a dust storm by flapping their wings next to the ground. Each turn every creature other than themselves within their mega-mega hex needs to roll 3/DX or suffer 1d-2 damage from flying debris. On a saving throw roll of 16 or higher the target is blinded until they take two turns to clear their eyes. On a 17 or higher the target falls down. When used in deep snow there is no damage or blinding, but the area is covered by combined Darkness and Magic Rainstorm effects of the blizzard.
The eggs hatch after a week into larvae that start out rat sized but grow to two-hex size by the time they've eaten all the needles of three trees. The larvae then wrap themselves up in cocoons as the first snows are falling. The silk from one cocoon is worth at least $50 if gathered either during the pupae stage or within a week after emergence.
